Minimum wage is ever increasing. In light of the 2014 minimum wage increases in several provinces and territories in Canada, we wanted to take a look back at the journey of minimum wage in our country and all of its jurisdictions.
The provinces and territories that have or are increasing minimum wage in 2014 are:
- Nova Scotia increased the minimum wage increased for experienced employees to $10.40 per hour and for inexperienced employees to $9.90
- The Yukon, effective April 1, 2014, the minimum wage increased to $10.72 per hour
- Quebec, effective May 1, 2014, the general minimum wage and the minimum wage for the clothing industry will increase to $10.35 per hour.
- Ontario is raising the minimum wage to $11.00 per hour effective June 1, 2014
- Prince Edward Island will increase to $10.20 an hour as of June 1, 2014 & to $10.35 an hour as of October 1, 2014
- Saskatchewan will increase the minimum wage on October 1, 2014 to $10.20 per hour
- Newfoundland and Labrador will increase the minimum wage October 1, 2014, to $10.25 per hour. This will be followed by another increase on October 1, 2015 to $10.50
